US, EU Sign Trade Deal; Thailand, Cambodia Agree to Ceasefire Talks

July 28, 2025

Good Morning,

The United States and European Union reached a last-minute trade agreement setting 15% tariffs on most European exports to America, averting what could have been a devastating trade war. The deal, struck between President Trump and EU Commission President von der Leyen, helped lift European stock futures as markets welcomed the resolution of escalating trade tensions. Meanwhile, violence continued to plague the Democratic Republic of Congo where dozens were killed in an attack on a church in the eastern region, while humanitarian concerns mounted as an Egyptian aid convoy departed for Gaza amid the deepening crisis there. Regional diplomatic efforts showed mixed results as Thailand and Cambodia agreed to ceasefire talks following Trump's intervention, though border clashes persist between the nations. On the environmental front, the US and Mexico reached an agreement on addressing the long-standing Tijuana River sewage crisis that has affected cross-border communities for decades.
