Trump Targets Canadian Imports, U.S. Aid Cuts Threaten HIV/AIDS Fight, & Europe Boosts Ukraine Investment Amid Ongoing Conflicts

July 11, 2025

Good Morning,

In an escalation of trade tensions, President Trump announced plans to impose a 35% tariff on Canadian imports, while he also shifted U.S. Africa policy to emphasize trade. Meanwhile, the UN warns that U.S. aid cuts could result in millions more HIV/AIDS deaths by 2029. In Europe, leaders are calling for increased investment in Ukraine despite the ongoing war, with a new equity fund being established. Additionally, unresolved issues in Western Tigray continue to threaten Ethiopia's stability, more than two years after the Pretoria Peace Agreement.
