President Trump announced a 50% tariff on copper imports while threatening additional 10% tariffs on countries aligning with BRICS policies, marking a significant expansion of his trade war strategy. Meanwhile, a Tunisian court sentenced opposition leader Rached Ghannouchi to 14 years in prison alongside other politicians receiving 12-35 year terms for "plotting against the state," continuing President Saied's crackdown on dissent. In Asia, Iran and Qatar strengthened defense cooperation following recent regional conflicts, while Taiwan conducted its largest-ever military exercises focused on combat readiness amid rising tensions. The European Union granted 15 member states permission to exceed deficit limits for defense spending, reflecting growing security concerns, as Mexico's president condemned anti-tourism protests as "xenophobic" amid rising nationalist sentiment across multiple continents.
