Rare Human Flesh-Eating Parasite Case in US; Israel Kills 5 Journalists in Hospital Bombing; China, Pakistan Elevate Cooperation

August 26, 2025

Good Morning,

The CDC confirmed the first U.S. case of New World screwworm, a rare flesh-eating parasite, while hundreds of residents fled central Mali following a deadly jihadist attack. In Gaza, an Israeli strike on Nasser Hospital killed journalists from Middle East Eye, and French opposition parties announced plans to topple Prime Minister Bayrou's government in a September confidence vote. Meanwhile, China and Pakistan pledged to strengthen their strategic partnership, and Venezuela's government released 13 opposition activists detained after disputed elections.
