France, US Clash Over 'Antisemitism;' Japan-China Diplomatic Tensions Flare; Argentina Investigates Milei

August 25, 2025

Good Morning,

France has summoned the American ambassador to Paris after the diplomat, Charles Kushner, wrote a letter to French President Emmanuel Macron alleging the country did not do enough to combat antisemitism - marking an unusual diplomatic rebuke between the allies. Meanwhile, Nigeria announced its air force rescued 76 kidnap victims in the country's troubled northwest region, highlighting ongoing security operations against criminal groups. In Gaza, Israeli military officials indicated that completely razing Gaza City could require over a year to complete, underscoring the scale of destruction from the ongoing conflict. Japan has reportedly requested that countries skip China's September commemorative events marking the end of World War II, reflecting persistent regional tensions. European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde warned that Europe's economy cannot achieve growth without increased migration, as the continent grapples with demographic and labor challenges. Finally, Argentina has opened an investigation into alleged kickback schemes involving President Javier Milei's inner circle, adding to political pressures facing the libertarian leader's administration.
